5 Things I’m Loving Right Now

5.) 24, Seasons 1-5

My husband and I (yes, I said husband! That’s still kinda weird for me to say) are huge tv fans. Needless to say, we are always bummed out when summer comes around because all of our favorite shows are on hiatus and there really isn’t anything good on tv, other than our guilty pleasure So You Think You Can Dance (Dance, Dance). So, what’s a couple to do instead of moping around wondering what the tv gods will bring us next season on The Office, Lost or Heroes?...Go work out? Eh, too lazy!... Do some soul searching? Boring, let me know when she rolls over! ...How about we find another show and obsess on that? Ding! Ding! Ding! And, circle gets the square!

Thanks to the awesomeness that is Netflix (don’t even get me started on this. That could be a whole blog in itself!), we started Netflix-ing tv shows. I had heard many good things about 24, mainly from James’ and Jenna’s blogs and you know when some of my favorite celebs endorse something, I am so there! We are so hooked on this show. The suspense is great, the action is awesome and Jack Bauer is kickass. Nobody, I mean nobody, can kill a man while his arms are tied behind his back like Jack Bauer can. We are currently on Season 5 (Season 4 was my favorite) and this has been a great distraction from the Phoenix heat. I too would want Jack as my assistant but as a smart Schrute once said: “He is unavailable, fictional and overqualified.”

4.) Pho

What is pho you ask? Well, it’s only this uberly delish Vietnamese dish that makes your tummy feel so good after you have eaten it. Technically, it’s a bowl of white rice noodles in clear beef broth with thin cuts of beef. Un-technically, its music to my tummy. There is this small, hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese restaurant right next to Fiesta Mall that has great pho. Dave, Andrea, Matt and I go at least once a month pho nourishment. We all love it and it’s cheap as hell. All four of us eat with lots of appetizers, pho and drinks for no more than $30 total! I’m getting hungry just writing about it. Does anyone want to do pho this weekend? Pho realsies!

3.) To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Just so you guys don’t think I am a total tv nerd, I am reading this summer as well. No, I’m not reading some wierdo harlequin love novel (do you guys even know anyone who does? I’ve never met anyone, so I wonder why they sell so well). I am ¾ through reading this great literary masterpiece that is To Kill a Mockingbird. I read it when I was young and I didn’t remember anything about the book other than I liked it and you know what I just figured out? Young Eunice had really good taste! I’m loving this book now maybe even more than I did back then. I love Scout and how she always speaks her mind. I haven’t watched the movie, so I’m curious to see if they cast her the way I imagine her. I have jury duty tomorrow and I plan on finishing the book there and then I’m off to read my next book (Brief Interviews with Hideous Men by David Foster Wallace).

2.) Ballerina Flats

You know in the summer when you want to look cute but all you feel like wearing is flip-flops because its so effin hot and you just want to be super comfy? Well then, ballerina flats are for you! I love these things! Matt is only an inch taller than I am, so it’s always nice to find cool shoes that don’t have me towering over him. I love these Michael Kors ones I found on sale but if you’re going to go for super comfy and stylish, I would put my money on these Juicy Couture flats. I had been eyeing these for awhile now but Tima always made fun of me for wanting gold flats until I finally bought them and they are pretty slammin, if I do say so myself! (Note: The ones I have are from last season so I couldn't find a pic online but these season's are cute too!)

1.) The Office
Anyone who knows me knows The Office is my most favorite thing on TV (and in general). You might even go so far as saying I am obsessed. And while I do sometimes act like a 14 year old fangirl (thanks for joining me in this Andrea), I am so not ashamed of it because this IS the best thing on TV. I am a huge fan of comedy, so when I found The Office that is what attracted me to it. It is so brilliantly written and such a smart comedy, that I have become a huge fan of the writers as well. This comedy is written in layers, so while you watch it the first time and laugh your ass off, you can watch it a second, third and fourth time and you find yourself laughing at something you didn’t catch the other times. You will constantly catch yourself quoting the show and let me tell you, these folks can write a season finale like nobody’s business. Season 2 and Season 3 finales were A-MAAAA-ZING!

Besides the writing, the acting is astounding (Hello Emmy’s, SAGs, Golden Globes, TCAs, WGAs, DGA’s…etc). Steve Carell does such a great job playing Michael Scott. One minute he has you hating him, another he has you closing your eyes because of how uncomfortable his situations are and other times you are just feeling for him and want to give him a hug. There are a multitude of characters that manage to crack me up with their one-liners or just a simple glance at the camera. Oh and then you have all of these directors that are calling up The Office to do the show. They have been fortunate enough to have Ken Kwapis, Harold Ramis, JJ Abrams, and Joss Whedon (to name a few) direct some episodes. All these things would seem to be enough to grab an audience, right? Well, there is more! While all this crazy funny stuff is going on you get a classic romance in there somewhere. It’s like you have this great comedy and then somehow they managed to throw some heart into it and before you know it you’re hooked and feeling what the characters are. John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer play Jim and Pam with such realism that it’s hard not to feel for them.

I could go on and on about this show, so I’ll stop, but for those of you who don’t watch it, I highly highly highly recommend it. You could jump into the show and just start watching and you would still laugh your behind off but I recommend you starting from at least season 2 so you can get the back stories. Season 2 was the best season (of any tv show) so far starting from a great premiere, continuing with intriguing and hilarious story arcs throughout the season and ending with a firecracker of a finale. The same can be said for the third season but without watching the second season first, you lose that connection with some of the storylines. (Note: Season 1 was pretty amazing too but since it was a midseason replacement for NBC, it was only 6 episodes)
Ok, there. What are you waiting for….go watch it!!

One more thing and that's it I promise. It doesn't hurt that they (actors and writers) are so accessible to the fans. This year alone Andrea and I got to watch them film four hours of the show. That's crazy! We got to watch filming of our most favorite show ever! Who does that, right? We've also been lucky enough to meet all of the cast (minus Krasinksi) and in April, I received some nice messages from Jenna, Brian, Lee and James on my wedding. Cool right?!? Oh and a loud "SQUEE" to Andrea who got a special shoutout from Rainn just today about attending her Vegas bachelorette party! (Yes, THE Rainn Wilson!!!! He's hilarious!)

I think we can all say we are enjoying your introduction to the Office Craze. Hellooooo it only gets requoted many many times. I can't wait to the see the extra stuff for s3. Plus TV in any form is good....I soooo miss my shows in the summer!

Pho sounds like a good idea this weekend. I'm in!

SOOO Sorry about my flats comment. You really do rock the gold ballerina slippers. Hey I shop for regular clothes once in a blue moon and only recently started watching the fashion reality shows last year, why are you listening to me for fashion advice?

BTW - I'M one of those people who reads the trashy romance novels. :-) I got hooked in high school and read them every once in awhile when I'm not reading anything else. Ever seen the Friends episode about Rachel and Joey? Yeah its not quite that bad.......but pretty close. Don't knock it till you try it!

Tima with the love novels. So is it like porn but in book form? Hmm, what was your mom letting you read in high school? I wouldn't mind reading one of those about JAM, I wouldn't mind it at all ;o)

Yay, pho in a few hours! I'll see you guys there.
